One of the most important words you will ever know in life and in business. It’s really easy to become a people pleaser especially when you’re trying to run a successful business and you want to keep all of your customers/clients happy. However, unfortunately by saying yes all the time, you actually end up overwhelmed and overworked and you really need to set boundaries. In the beginning of my business I was constantly saying yes to everything and I never wanted to turn away any kind of work, this meant that when I did say no for whatever reason…my clients were almost offended that I had told them I wasn’t able to do something. I found myself running around like a headless chicken doing extras for all of my clients. By setting boundaries in the beginning of working with your client, they will naturally know that they cannot take the p*ss. Now I keep it very clear with all my clients that there must be a mutual respect when working together. Another reason why you should be saying no to certain things is that people can sense the desperation of a business owner who’s trying to break into a market. And from a customer’s perspective, desperation can be quite a turn off. While you might be completely snowed under with work and are showing true ambition by taking on even more, always saying yes to jobs or deal terms can lead your prospective client to believe that you aren’t particularly busy. Respecting your own time and services will always cause others to respect your time as well. Boundaries are really one of the most important things when it comes to successful friendships, relationships and businesses... However, it can’t feel awkward to say no sometimes so we have provided a little list of how to politely but firmly say no. I hope you find it useful 🤍

Remember when we were at school and the most important thing was to have as many friends as possible? As we get older, we realise that it is about quality, not quantity. Being around people who understand you, who motivate you, who you can trust and who lift you up when times are hard is extremely valuable. There is immense pressures of starting and setting up a business, and it is hard to be the leader, the person responsible for all decision-making. Working from home can also be isolating, and often the self-employed miss the social interaction and sense of community in the workplace. Having a support system is key to fulfilment in your life and your business. Wasting your time with people who don’t want the best for you, or you cannot trust, is counter productive… especially when we have very limited social time as business owners. “feeling or showing an envious resentment of someone or their achievements, possessions, or perceived advantages.” Did you ever get really excited about something and tell a friend, only for them to shoot you down and make you feel silly for being excited? SAME. So many times. Now this may seem innocent enough, however it is actually pretty threatening to your own self worth to surround yourself with people who do not celebrate your success with you. Throughout life, friends will come and go, and the real ones stick around. People who are unhappy or insecure will often project those feelings onto the people around them. You do not and should not have to experience this, no matter who that person is and how long you have known them for. It can feel really scary to remove negative people or even things from your life, but it is the ultimate self care. I have cut off friendships of over 5 years for this very reason. I saw that these people displayed traits of jealousy and bitterness towards me, and recognised that if I continued to surround myself with people like this, I would also end up just like them. Friends, and family should not be jealous of you, period. They can be proud of you, and wish for a similar success, whilst celebrating yours. As humans we naturally absorb the energies that surround us. Ever listened to someone’s problems/worries and instantly felt heavy, as if you had taken on some of their emotions? Yep, that’s energy. And if you surround yourself with people who either don’t believe in you, or do not want to see you succeed, then you too will absorb that energy and your self love/appreciation/worth will start to diminish. So, take a look at the people you surround yourself with and how they make you feel. Loving yourself is learning to let go of what no longer serves a positive purpose in your life. One thing I see most commonly from my clients is unjustified fear of what others will think of their social media posts. They worry of coming across as “cringey” and “embarrassing” in front of the people who know them personally. Lets break this down. A person who see’s you as “cringe” is not a person you want to surround yourself with. Think more about the opinions of the people in your life who support you every step of the way. The ones who are rooting for you always. The ones who want whats best for you. Fear creates limitations, especially when it comes to business. Stopping yourself from doing certain things due to the fear of judgement, will stunt your growth massively. Shying away from being true to yourself can remove relatability from your brand.
